I have been on a mandatory hiatus for almost a week. It is hard to believe how fast time goes by. The flu is going around and I was knocked down big time by it. On top of that, my injuries from the birth of our 19 month old have finally put me over the edge and went from pelvic floor to iliopsoas to piriformis and beyond.
Tons of mandatory rest and a visit to a chiropractor are putting me back on the mend. I have been taking a break from all things computers and just enjoying my rest, relaxation and family time. Today, the first day of somewhat feeling normal, I am surrounded by the majestic red mountains of Sedona and my beloved husband, daughter and soul sister Jacqueline (whom I met in Bali, Indonesia while co-facilitating a retreat there).
Onto our topic... What to do when you get knocked down mentally, physically and emotionally? If you are like me and go a hundred miles a minute while holding multiple balls up in the air, then at times it all just comes crashing down and you need to take a BREAK. If you do not have mandatory breaks built into your schedule, DO IT NOW. Schedule your time with yourself, your health commitments, your rest, your exercise, your nourishment, your outdoors time... Schedule it all because these are the things that keep you well-tuned and ready to take on the world.
I have a love-hate relationship with rest. I love the heck out of meditation and yoga, yet I dislike resting. I always have a lot going on and while I am able to rest sometimes, I honestly say yes to so many and so much that it can catch up after awhile.
Thus where I find myself right now. Coming on the tail end of a flu and physical injuries. Taking on too many clients in too short an amount of time. Don't let this happen to you. BALANCE is the key and you do this by scheduling everything out. Work, family, play, learning, and relaxation.
Make a commitment to schedule your relaxation in. Get a massage, do some gentle yoga, love on your pets while enjoying the outdoors, sip your coffee or tea while hanging in a hammock (or next to a warm fire for many of us this time of year). All those people and things that you had to do will still be there when you are done.
Enjoy your day and we will chat soon.
How have I been doing? Sick, rundown and enjoying some relaxing... Will have more when I'm back in the game again.
Until then, enjoy this beautiful song that I think is a much needed one with all the conflicting energies that surround Inaugural Day.
